A seasonal clean-up is the reset a property needs twice a year. In spring it's clearing out what winter left behind: leaves matted into the beds, branches on the lawn, grit and salt along the driveway. In fall it's closing the yard up before the snow, so nothing sits on the beds, lawn or patio all winter.

While we clean, we look at the hardscape: joints that washed out, pavers that lifted, a drain that's clogged, a wall that's starting to lean. Spring clean-up: after the thaw
Spring clean-ups start once the snow is gone and the ground is firm enough to work on without leaving ruts in the lawn and beds. Winter leaves behind more than it looks like from the window: wet leaves packed into the beds, broken branches, grit and salt along the driveway, and sand washed out of paver joints by snowmelt.
We clear the debris, cut back last year's perennial growth before the new shoots come up, prune shrubs and hedges that are ready for it, re-cut the bed edges and lay fresh mulch. On the hardscape, we sweep or wash the surfaces and top up the joints that lost their sand over the winter.
Fall clean-up: before the snow
Fall clean-ups are best timed after most of the leaves are down and before the first snow that stays. Leaves left on a lawn over winter mat down and smother the grass, and wet leaves left on pavers can stain the surface.
We clear the leaves and debris, cut back the perennials that won't stand through winter, tidy the beds and prune what should be pruned before the cold. We clear the patios and walkways and pull leaves out of the channel drains, so meltwater has somewhere to go in spring.
Why a hardscape crew does it differently
Most patio damage starts small: a joint that lost its sand, a paver that lifted a few millimetres, a downspout that now empties against the edge. A clean-up is the one time each season someone looks closely at every hard surface on the property, which makes it the right time to catch those problems.
We clean hardscape the way it was built to be cleaned. Pressure-washing a paver patio up close blasts the sand out of the joints and leaves them open to weeds and ants, so wherever a surface is washed, the joints are topped up with polymeric sand afterward.
If something needs more than a clean-up, like a settled section of patio or a wall that has moved, we write it down and you decide what to do about it. Repairs aren't started as part of a clean-up.

Do you do lawn aeration or overseeding?
Not as part of a clean-up. Our clean-ups cover leaves and debris, garden beds and shrubs, and patio and interlock care.
